There are a lot of variables in documentary budgets, depending on the type of story that is being told. The budget template published by Sundance is a good starting point, because it is so complete:

After understanding all the facets of the film-making process and presentation, it is possible to eliminate categories that are not relevant to the particular story you are telling.
