WHY DO I NEED TO KNOW MY CLOTHING SIZES – HOW DO I FIND OUT WHAT THEY

ARE??

The WHY is simple – to get work. Every day I post casting notices looking for a man

that takes a size 40 Regular suit or a woman that wears size 2 dresses. ALL

stand-in, Body double and Photo Double parts are based (in part) on Wardrobe size.

I once got a part because the actor that was hired backed out of the role and they

needed to find someone that fit the uniform they rented.

I was on a TV show set a few years ago and an Actor had given his wardrobe sizes

to the Wardrobe Department and they rented his bartenders Uniform from them. He

had landed a GREAT Featured Part being in focus and on Camera multiple times in

a 10 minute scene.

Come time to get ready, his body was at least 2 sizes larger than the sizes he had

given wardrobe. Luckily Wardrobe was able to replace him with another extra on

set that night but using what he thought was his size instead of his actual size –

cost him that Featured Part and Much more.

You see on set the replacement Actor was given a few lines and upgraded to a

Principal role. He went from a Non-Union Extra being paid a flat $100 for the night

to having a SAG Principal role paying $690, plus a screen credit, plus residuals,

plus he became SAG eligible.

Every time I send out a Profile Search Casting notice (When I input the Employers

Needs - Height, Weight, wardrobe sizes, hair color, or anything else the Employer

requests) 2/3rds of DragonukCommects.com Members have Excluded themselves

from even Getting the casting notice because the information is not in their profie.

Now the how.

There are several ways to get accurate wardrobe sizes, my Personal choice is

going to a tux Rental shop and telling them my brother is getting married in

California and I need to send him my correct sizes because he is renting all

the Tuxes out there. SSSHHHUUUUSSSSHH!!!!!!! (Also Works for Bridesmaids

dresses)

I have done this 6-8 times and always offered to pay (fee should be reasonable

$5 - $10 for 5 Minutes of their time) only once did someone want payment - $2 -

I gladly paid them.

Another way is to get someone’s help and measure yourself at home. You MUST

be 100% accurate, but it can be done.

MENS MEASUREMENTS

A suit Jacket size is the Man’s Chest measurement at the widest or thickest place

– just under the arms at the shoulder. Make sure you are measuring over the

shoulder blades and the tape measure is parallel to the floor (straight, and not

twisted). Keep your arms relaxed at your side. Do not pull the tape measure tight,

keep 2 fingers of space in the measurement at all times

The waist is measured at the top of your hip bone (also called the beltline). Do not

pull the tape measure tight, keep 2 fingers of space in the measurement at all times

In men’s Suits a “Standard Cut” or “Regular” suit has a 6” difference between the

waist and the Chest (a 36” waist with a 42” chest)

An “Athletic Cut” suit will have an 8” difference (a 36” waist with a 44” Chest.

A “Portly Cut” suit will have a 4” Difference (a 36”waist with a 40” Chest)

A Neck Measurement is done around the neck just above the shoulders.

A Neck to waist Measurement Starts at the bony protrusion at the back of the

neck and is measured along the spine to the waist.

The Sleeve is measured with you arm at your side and slightly bent at the elbowYou measure from the center of your back by the Neck) along the outside of your

arm (so you go over the point of the slightly bent elbow) and stops at the wrist.

The Inseam is measured from the height of the crotch seam, down the leg to thedesired length at the ankle.

For Your Hat measurement use a tape measure, Follow around head staying 1" above the ear

Garment Alphabet Size S (Small) M (Medium) L (Large) XL XXL

Glove Measurement There are 2 different Measurements for your glove size. You

should measure both and use the larger of the 2 sizes

1). Hand Width - Measure all the way around the flat part of your hand at and

including the knuckles (excluding the thumb).

US Glove Sizes XS S M L XL XXL

Hand Width 6-7” 7-8” 8-9” 9-10” 10-11” 1” plus

2). Finger Length Measurement - Measure from the wrist to the tip of the Middle

finger

Finger Length 6 ¼” 6 ¾” 7 3/16” 7 9/16” 8 1/16” 8 7/16 plus inches

US Glove size XS S M L XL XXL

If your Measurement is in between Finger Length Sizes - use the larger size

Remember to use the larger of your Hand Width and your Finger Length sizes
